Breath, sound & singing

The air that we breathe not only has the power to keep us alive, it also has the power to heal us.
 
So far, this year I have made sure of one thing, and that is to step outside my comfort zone.
 
Why would one do this to one’s self?
 
To grow, of course.
 
As we come to the half way mark of 2017 I feel reflection is in order on what I have learnt in this year thus far.
 
Breath, breathing, sound, and that of air and its movement have been the main elements of my lessons.
 
First off in January, at a retreat in Sydney, I learnt the art of connecting your breath with your body to enhance pleasure, and to bring an overall sense of health and wellbeing to your body. 
 
Highlight # 1
  • When making love you simply sip air deep into your pleasure zones and consciously bring your attention there,
  • hold for a few seconds then then release your breath with a gorgeous and pleasurable sigh,
  • repeat, repeat, repeat! (did you know you can orgasm just by breathing correctly?)
 
Secondly, in April I was invited to conduct a workshop on Canberra. While I was waiting for my workshop time slot I took a workshop led by the beautiful Morgan Jai Morincome from www.sacredinnerwild.com. Morgan led us in singing, sound and creative song. I highly recommend singing as a form of connection with not only the people you are singing with but with yourself.
 
I began this workshop with a very sore back, so sore in fact I wasn’t sure how I was going to conduct my own workshop that day.
 
By the end of the hour, Morgan led us in sound and song which somehow, miraculously and completely, took all the pain out of my back.
 
Highlight #2
  • Finding your voice
  • I was reminded how singing and vocal sounding is healing.
  • If you are feeling down, if your body is sore or if you are feeling happy and you need a way to express these feelings use your voice.

Thirdly in May, at Pambula Beach’s SoulFest, I had a massage from Sharean, and Carolyn came along and did some vibrational sounding over my body as I had the massage. This was incredibly moving and I felt very calm and relaxed from this.
 
I also took a breath work shop with Sol and Shanti from central Tilba in NSW. The group was guided through deep breathing to help heal anything that needed to be healed. The key to this was the practice of ‘proper deep breathing’ using a relaxed jaw, and drawing breath deep into your hara (stomach) and high up into your heart, then releasing that full breath along with any energetic or emotional blockages.

Highlight# 3
  • Our bodies respond to sound and vibration.
  • Breath is truly the life force of our existence.
  • When use consciously it has the power to heal.
  • Learning to take full deep, proper breaths is brilliant for general wellbeing.
 
Tying this all together is Highlight #4
  • If you feel crappy, moody, nonplussed, or have a bad back, head ache, or are just feeling low I suggest getting yourself to a quiet private space or outside amongst the trees or like I did on Monday down to a deserted beach and start singing. You don’t have to sing any words, you can hum if you like, you can just sing a tune.
  • But sing, sound or hum into your feeling until it shifts.
  • Breath and sound is life.
